Hanoi (VNA) – Politburo member and Secretary of Hanoi’s Party Committee Vuong Dinh Hue asked foreign hi-tech groups to consider investing in the city’s existing industrial zones, including the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park, while receiving representatives from FDI enterprises operating in the high technology industry on January 19. Hue encouraged the Kinh Bac City Development Holding Corporation (KBC) to invest in industrial zones in Soc Son and Dong Anh districts to attract more foreign businesses. He expressed his hope that major technology groups will set up search and development (R&D) and innovation centres in Hanoi in the way the Republic of Korea’s Samsung Group has done. Local passenger bus owners recently complained about unfair competition from foreign buses with registration plates from Laos and Cambodia. During busy days, there were eight to ten foreign buses carrying tourists from HCM City to Lam Dong. According to the local bus owners, the fares are cheaper by half because the foreign buses do not have to pay taxes and fees while the local owners have to pay VND1.7m (USD73) to VND2.3m per month per vehicle in addition to the road maintenance fee and other charges. The traffic police said they had fined three buses from Laos and Cambodia VND4m (USD172) each and ordered them to leave Vietnam as they stay in Vietnam past the allowed time limit. Vehicles from Vietnam and Laos can stay in each other's territories for a maximum of 30 days according to Laos-Vietnam Cross-border Transport Permit. HCM City (VNS/VNA) – The southern province of Binh Duong will spend around 9 trillion VND (388 million USD) on key transport projects this year to boost socio-economic development, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Hoang Thao has said.  In order to efficiently use the money, funds will be spent on important, key projects that can be completed and put into use this year. Specifically, the province plans to build fly-over bridges at Phuoc Kien, Cho Dinh and Cho Cay Dua junctions. The provincial construction department said the fly-overs would reduce ground level junctions with the ring road and the My Phuoc - Tan Van expressway, while boosting traffic connections among industrial parks in the province and HCM City ports.
