Vietnam named ‘World’s Leading Heritage Destination 2019’

Vietnam has been honored as the “World’s Leading Heritage Destination 2019” at the 26th World Travel Awards (WTA) held recently in Oman, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT). The recognition of Vietnam as the world’s leading heritage destination reaffirms the country’s efforts to preserve cultural heritages and boost its status on THE global tourism map, the WTA said. Vietnam is home to eight world heritage sites recognized by UNESCO: Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, My Son Sanctuary, Hoi An ancient town, the Complex of Hue Monuments, Ha Long Bay, Trang An Landscape Complex, Thang Long Imperial Citadel, and the Ho Dynasty Citadel. The heritage sites and other destinations have repeatedly won acclaim from prestigious travel magazines in recent years. World’s largest glove maker to open first Vietnam factory next year

Photo: Nikkei.asia.com The world's largest glove maker is expected to invest $24.5 million to build the new factory, which would produce four billion polyvinyl chloride gloves a year, Japanese newspaper Nikkei Asian Review reported. The plant will be built on an industrial plot in Vietnam, measuring more than 20 acres, Top Glove executive chairman and founder Lim Wee Chai told the New Strait Times. The company’s managing director, Kim Meow Lee told Malaysia’s The Star newspaper on the sidelines of the 2019 Invest Malaysia that the construction of the plant has started and production would commence in the first quarter of 2020. Top Glove, which has a market capitalization of just over $3 billion, reported profits of $105.7 million last year on revenues of $1 billion. Border troops respond to World Environment Day

Accordingly, the units participated in cleaning beaches, planting mangrove forests, dredging sewers, tidying up the living environment, and instructing local people to practice the civilized life style and more. Troops and local youths clean up the environment.  The campaign of the border guard units saw the participation of members of various departments, Party committees and unions in localities as well as a good number of youths, students and local people. It is expected that 55,000 tons of waste will be collected for disposal and livestock cages of 500 households will be moved further away from home. These practical activities aim to raise public awareness of environmental protection and change behavior of fishermen in the coastal areas toward the marine environment while promoting their responsibility for cleaning the sea. Trust, cooperation vital for marine security: Singaporean official

Minister for Trade and Industry of Singapore Chan Chun Sing speaks at the 6th International Maritime Security Conference (Photo: mindef.gov.sg) Singapore (VNA) – Building trust to encourage peace dialogues and compromise is key to dealing with complex marine security challenges which are threatening trade networks, said Minister for Trade and Industry of Singapore Chan Chun Sing. Chan made his statement while delivering the keynote address at the opening dinner of the sixth International Maritime Security Conference (IMSC) in Singapore on May 14. In his address, Chan mentioned challenges in piracy and terrorism, noting that an underestimation of an attack at chokepoints like the Panama or Suez Canals could be catastrophic and potentially cut off trade connections between major regions of the world. US experts: China should refrain from actions further militarising East Sea

(Photo: AFP) Washington D.C (VNA) – China and other concerned nations should refrain from actions that further militarise the East Sea and parties need to sit down for negotiation via diplomatic channels to resolve the issue, according to an US expert. China’s growing militarisation of the East Sea makes the situation more complicated and probably causes misunderstanding in an area that has already suffered from many conflicts and complexity, Lindsey Ford, Director for Political-Security Affairs at the US’s Asia Society Policy Institute told Vietnam News Agency during a recent briefing by the University of Pennsylvania’s global research centre Perry World House.
