MPI Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong expects a strong recovery of the economy GDP growth in the first quarter was estimated at 5 per cent on-year. Inflation was controlled and the consumer price index in the first four months increased by 2.1 per cent. Vietnam's Business Climate Index by EuroCham has risen to 73 percentage points, an increase of 12 points over the last quarter of 2021, which is the highest since the fourth wave of the pandemic, showing that business executives are upbeat as the country opens up. He made the statement at a meeting with the U.S. business community in Washingon D.C on May 12 (local time), as part of his trip to the U.S. The meeting was held by the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, during which he also affirmed that Vietnam always considers the U.S. a leading partner. Leaders of the U.S. and the 10-country Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) attended the official working sessions of the ASEAN-US Special Summit on May 13 (Saturday morning Hanoi time). During the summit, the U.S. announced a series of new initiatives, including a $60 million package to expand maritime cooperation, which will entail helping ASEAN countries counter illegal fishing and deploying U.S. Coast Guard personnel to the Indo-Pacific to support maritime training. Vietnamese unit presents gifts to Cambodian armed forces
In particular, on May 12 and 13, the mission presented six gift packages, worth VND 120 million, to the Police Department, Military Sub-region, gendarme force, and the Overseas Vietnamese Associations of Svay Rieng and Pray Veng provinces.
