Painting exhibition, auction support Agent Orange victims (20-06-2006) by Duc Ngoc More than 29 paintings are on display at a HCM City painting exhibition organised to raise money for Agent Orange victims living in the southern province of Tien Giang. The exhibition is the joint effort of Tien Giang Province’s Agent Orange Victims Association and the HCM City Fine Arts Association. Ho Van Be, chairman of Tien Giang’s Agent Orange victims association, said that his province has about 6,237 victims, 3,154 of whom were poisoned directly by dioxin during the war. Be said Agent Orange victims suffer from many physical problems, including a great deal of pain. They really need the community’s help. Dong Ho Paintings Dong Ho folk painting is famous because Dong Ho is the only village where people know how to make the painting with completely natural materials. The printing paper is made of the bark of a tree called "Do". Collector Pham Duc Si will introduce his collection of Hang Trong folk paintings at an exhibition at the Viet Art Centre, 42 Yet Kieu, Hanoi from September 9. , Si’s collection is praised as the largest personal collection of Hang Trong paintings in Vietnam, with 149 paintings. Si used to be a carpenter who made painting frames and statue platforms for students and exhibitions at the Vietnam Arts University. This carpenter surprised people when he introduced his unique collection of Vietnamese worshiping paintings last October, also at the Viet Art Centre. Unlike Dong Ho folk paintings, which are very popular, the number of Hang Trong paintings is limited. At present, there is no family on Hang Trong Street producing paintings.
