Vietnam has affirmed its strong commitment to the advancement of women and gender equality as important instruments to achieve equitable and sustainable development, at the UN debate on Agenda Item 28: Advancement of Women in New York on October 14. Vice President highlights role of women in business, politics (12-06-2006) CAIRO — Promoting and increasing the role women in all walks of life was in the interest not only of women but of all mankind, Vice President Truong My Hoa said on Saturday at the opening of the 16th Global Summit of Women in Cairo, Egypt. The annual summit has brought together outstanding women from governments, major organisations and businesses around the world. Hoa is leading a Vietnamese delegation that includes leaders of ministries and services and more than 40 women entrepreneurs. Hoa, who is also honorary co-president of the summit, said the conference was redefining women’s leadership globally and would discuss measures to increase the participation of women economically, especially in business. Nation’s outstanding women receive national recognition (20-10-2008) HA NOI — Three female collectives and eight individuals were awarded the Viet Nam Women’s Prize 2008 – one of the country’s largest prizes for women, at a ceremony held in Ha Noi on Saturday on the occasion of the 78th founding anniversary of the Viet Nam Women’s Union. At the award ceremony, certificates of merit were also presented to outstanding girl students, who ranked first at the recent university entrance examination, and those who made great contributions to the movement to help underprivileged women. The three female units receiving the Viet Nam Women’s Prize 2008 come from the Centre for Hue Historical Relics Preservation, the HCM City Economics University, and the Police General Department. Women Entrepreneurs Look to the Sea and Islands On March 2, 2013, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council, in collaboration with Vietnam Television (VTV), organised an exchange programme called "Proud of Vietnamese women entrepreneurs - Spring and past roads" with the overarching topic of “Women entrepreneurs look to the national sea and islands." Distinguished attendants included Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan, Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Thi Hai Chuyen, Chairwoman of Vietnam Women Association Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, and high-ranking officials and retired leaders of central agencies.
