Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh has allowed the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) and the Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City to implement a research program on scientific and technology tasks necessary for sustainable development in the southwest region between 2015 and 2019. The Mekong Delta has yet to develop sustainably due to slow economic re-structuring and limited cooperative ties between the region and other provinces across the country, necessitating the plan, said Deputy PM Ninh, who is also Head of the Steering Committee for the southwest region, while chairing a workshop in Kien Giang province on March 27 th . He pointed out that the rate of impoverished households in the region remains high, especially in remote and ethnic minority inhabited areas. For more than half a century, ASEAN has established itself as one of the most authoritative organizations, a crucial element of the new multipolar world order and a hub centered around by many important political and economic processes in Asia-Pacific,  Zakharova said in her remarks to mark the 55th founding anniversary of the bloc. The event was co-organized by Vietnam’s Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and the RoK’s Ministry of Employment and Labor. Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Ba Hoan affirmed at the workshop that the two countries have conducted many cooperative activities in labor, employment, occupational education, human resources development, labor safety and hygiene, social security, social insurance and gender equality. Such collaboration has brought economic benefits to both people and enterprises of the two countries, he said. At present, the RoK is the biggest foreign investor in Vietnam with 9,223 valid projects and aggregate capital of 74.7 billion USD as of December 2021.
