During November, the price of domestic raw cassava rose slightly from October. In Tay Ninh province, cassava could be traded from the factory at a price of between VND2,650 to VND2,780 per kilo, an increase of VND100 per kilo in comparison to the end of October, while in Kon Tum, cassavas could be purchased at between VND1,950 and VND2,100 per kilo. In contrast to the same period from previous years, demand from the Chinese market has yet to experience an upward trend, although it is anticipated that prices will not fall further due to an insufficient supply of cassava starch. Vietnam is going to enter aging population at fast pace. Vietnam is one of the countries with the fastest aging population. Without good measures, the transition from the population aging period to the aged population is about 17-20 years, which is shorter than other developed countries around 70-80 years. Mekong Delta set to grapple with devastating water shortage
Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, home to 20 million people and a major rice producer, will see a 30-45 percent decrease in water flow between now and February 2020, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting. The center said on Tuesday that drought and saltwater intrusion from the sea in the region in the next few months could be as devastating as in 2016, the delta's worst drought since data was first available in 1926. It had caused losses worth VND8.9 trillion ($400 million). The prolonged drought, caused by El Nino, saw more than 400,000 families suffer from lack of water and destroyed 250,000 hectares of rice, 130,000 hectares of cash crops and 30,000 hectares of fruits. The center's data shows that between June and October this year rainfall in the upper Mekong region was 35-40 percent less than normal. According to the Government Office, in the last 9 months, it cooperated with related ministries & sectors, and local authorities to standardize and upgrade necessary databases for administrative procedures regarding citizens and businesses in order to integrate them for the services launched on the portal. This public service portal, an essential milestone in the implementation of the people-centered and enterprise-centered approach, aims at delivering transparent information about administrative procedures as well as actually carrying out these practical works online. The portal is supposed to save more than VND4,200 billion (approx. US$181.4 million) per year.
