The mosquito-borne viral disease also claimed 368 lives during the period. The Central Luzon region recorded the most, over 18,000 cases, followed by the Central Visayas region (over 10,000), and Metro Manila (almost 9,000), statistics show. Dengue is endemic in the Philippines. Like other water-borne infectious diseases, it usually peaks in the rainy season from July to October. Vietnamese teenage boy saves young girl from drowning despite recent injury
A 16-year-old boy from the northern Vietnamese province of Nam Dinh was praised for jumping into a river to save a young girl from drowning on Sunday last week, an official confirmed on Wednesday. The hero is Bui Hai An, a young resident of Hai Trung Commune in Hai Hau District, Nam Dinh, according to the local official. Footage from a security camera installed in a local house showed that two teenagers were riding a motorbike on a riverside road on the afternoon of July 31 when they saw someone struggling in the Ninh Co River. The two teens ran to a nearby house to call for help. That residence turned out to be An’s and he immediately ran to the riverside, taking off his T-shirt before jumping into the water to rescue the victim. South Africa reports first death causally linked to Covid vaccine
The person presented with rare neurological disorder Guillain-Barre Syndrome soon after being given J&J's vaccine, after which the person was put on a ventilator and later died, senior scientists told a news conference. "At the time of illness no other cause for the Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) could be identified," Professor Hannelie Meyer said. The person's age and other personal details were not disclosed for confidentiality reasons. Last July, U.S. authorities added a warning to a factsheet for J&J's vaccine saying data suggested there was an increased risk of GBS in the six weeks after vaccination. At the time it noted 100 preliminary reports of GBS in vaccine recipients, including 95 serious cases and one reported death. J&J did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment. We’re currently working to achieve these goals in the ethnic Tay village of Ban Lien in Lao Cai by providing infrastructure and education. Vietnamese province revamps public bus service after limbless man ignored by drivers
The Department of Transport of the north-central Vietnamese province of Nghe An has ordered a revamp of local public bus routes after a limbless man spent two hours repeatedly failing to flag down a bus, apparently because drivers were simply ignoring him. A viral video posted online on Thursday showed Huynh Thanh Duc, 51, a resident of Ha Tinh Province, telling a local in Hoa Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District, Nghe An Province that he stood at a bus stop waiting for a bus from 7:00 am to 9:00 am on Wednesday. Duc, who is quadruple amputee, was dropped off at the bus stop by his child at around 7:00 am that day to catch bus No. 5 from Yen Thanh to Vinh City, the capital of Nghe An. The analysis conducted by Airfinity , a health data firm, covers the period from December 8, 2020 to December 8, 2021 and shows that more than 72 million doses were delivered to Vietnam, making AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine one of the most used in the country. AstraZeneca’s vaccine was the first COVID-19 vaccine approved by the Ministry of Health, and the first to be supplied in large quantities to support Vietnam’s national vaccination campaign and pandemic response effort.
