Vietnam issues 14 million ‘COVID-19 vaccine passports’
The Vietnamese Ministry of Health has issued 14 million ‘COVID-19 vaccine passports’ to the general public since April 15. A month after its official rollout, the passport is now available on the national COVID-19 app PC-Covid and the Digital Health app. It has 11 fields of information: name, date of birth, nationality, the targeted disease, doses of vaccines received, date of vaccination, lot number of the vaccine batch, type of vaccine, vaccine product received, the vaccine manufacturer, and a code for the certification. Information on the targeted disease, vaccine, vaccine product or manufacturer is compatible with the values provided in the World Health Organization’s 'COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker and Landscape' and the 'Value Sets for EU Digital COVID Certificates' issued by the European Union. SEA Games 31: Vietnam gain five bronzes in dancesport

(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnamese dancers brought home five bronze medals on May 16, the second and last competition day of dancesport at the ongoing SEA Games 31. Three of them were brought by Nguyen Duc Hoa and Nguyen Thi Hai Yen in Waltz, Tango and five Standard Dances. Vu Hoang Anh Minh and Nguyen Truong Xuan won two in Viennese Waltz and Quickstep. On the day, the Philippines gained four gold and two silver medals; and Thailand pocketed two golds and four silvers. In total, both Vietnam and the Philippines won five gold medals across 12 categories. The hosts bagged one silver and five bronze while the Philippines had five and two, respectively. SEA Games 31 , themed “For a Stronger South East Asia”, is being held in Hanoi and 11 neighbouring provinces and cities until May 23. SEA Games 31: Three Vietnamese players enter semi-finals of individual rapid chess

The qualifying matches of games 1 to 5 of the individual rapid chess competition took place at the Quang Ninh Exhibition of Planning and Expo Centre on May 16. Four Vietnamese players competed in the event. In the women’s category, two players Pham Le Thao Nguyen and Bach Ngoc Thuy Duong each had three wins and two draws, earning 4 points, and ranked 1st and 2nd respectively on the chart. In the men’s category, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son had three draws and two wins, with 3.5 points. However, Liem won only two matches, lost in two other and drew one, earning only 2.5 points; Thus, Thao Nguyen, Thuy Duong, and Truong Son reached the semi-finals. Nguyen outlasted Malaysia’s Sim Jia Ru while her husband, grandmaster Son, defeated Megaranto Susanto of Indonesia to enter the finals where they both faced opponents from Singapore. Nguyen claimed victory over Gong Qianyun just a few minutes before Son’s win over Tin Jingyao, taking two more gold medals for Vietnam at the regional games. Hanoi chairman, health minister face disciplinary actions over Covid test kit scam
According to a Wednesday announcement, the Party's Central Inspection Committee proposed to the Politburo, the Party's decision-making body, to consider disciplinary actions for the Party Committee of the Ministry of Science and Technology during the 2016-2021 period, the Party Committee of the Ministry of Health during the 2016-2021 period, Hanoi chairman Chu Ngoc Anh who served as the science minister during the period, and health minister Nguyen Thanh Long. Former deputy health minister jailed in fake cancer drug scandal
Cuong was sentenced by the Hanoi’s People Court after being charged with "negligence that results in serious consequences". He is also forbidden from holding positions in the field of medicine for three years after finishing his sentence. Nguyen Minh Hung, former chairman of the management board of pharmaceutical firm Vietnam Pharma JSC, received 18 years in jail for "manufacturing and trading of counterfeit medicines for treatment or prevention of diseases". Hung had been sentenced to 17 years under the same charge at another trial over the case in 2019. His cumulative years to spend in prison will be 30 years, the maximum number of jail time for combined timed sentences in accordance with Vietnamese law. 12 others convicts related to the cases were also sentenced to between 2-20 years in jail.
