Hanoi (VNA) - The annual Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore will take place this year after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Singaporean Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen has said. The Shangri-La Dialogue will resume this year, as more effective safety measures against COVID-19 are in place and vaccinations ongoing, he said in a social media post. The event is scheduled to be held from June 4-6 by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). Neither the expected format nor number of attendees has been revealed. Northern region faces continued cold weather
Hanoi (VNA) - The National Centre for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecast has reported that the temperature in the northern region will continue to decrease deeply over the coming days. Rain and cold air hit the northern region on January 18 with the lowest temperature of 8-10 degrees Celsius and 4-7 degrees Celsius in mountain areas. The lowest temperature was recorded early January 18 in Sa Pa, Lao Cai province, was 7 degrees Celsius and 9.2 degrees in Mau Son, Lang Sơn province, a slight increase from the previous day. Some other mountainous areas also experienced very low temperatures including Pha Din (Dien Bien) with 9.4 degrees Celsius, Tam Dao (Vinh Phuc) 12 degrees and Dong Van (Ha Giang) 7.3 degrees. The capital city to the north-central region faced temperatures of about 16 degrees Celsius. 14th Shangri-La Dialogue: dialogue to build trust, transparency
The 14th Shangri-La Dialogue ended in Singapore on May 31 with a message that dialogue is needed to build trust and transparency. German Defence Minister Ursula von der Layen said this is the first time German has joined the dialogue, which gives the country an opportunity to exchange experience and learn from other countries. She highlighted that transparency and trust building is key to cooperation, adding that together with security structure and mutual benefit they are the pillars for successful partnership. Sharing Layen’s opinion, New Zealand Defence Minister Gerry Brownlee said his country attaches much importance to the maintenance of peace, stability and prosperity in the region. Airlines ordered to use planes alternatively
According to CAAV, since the Covid-19 pandemic has continued worldwide, the number of planes that must stay idle has continued to increase which may damage the planes. In order to minimise damage, airlines must make sure to have plans to use their planes alternatively so that no plane stay idle for over a month. If any plane must be grounded for over a month for repair and is not safe, the airlines must report to the CAAV for approval. Regular maintenance cases are excluded. The airlines were also asked to carry out maintenance and update information about the regulations on maintaining grounded planes. The Flight Safety Standard Department was asked to work with the airlines and maintenance service providers to increase inspections and suitable measures to protect the planes under the weather condition in Vietnam.
