Murders in New York witnessed an on-year decrease of 4.8 percent in 2016. The number of murders and shootings in New York continued to fall last year to hit their lowest levels since the early 1990s, new figures showed Wednesday. The good news for New York, the largest U.S. metropolis with a population of 8.5 million, comes as other American cities like Chicago struggle with an explosion in murder and other violent crimes. New York notched 335 murders in 2016, a 4.8 percent decrease from 2015, according to the latest police statistics. The city recorded 998 shootings last year, 140 fewer than 2015 or a 12 percent drop. It was the lowest level ever on record for a category created in the early 1990s. The course has been instructed by award-winning Dutch composer and sound designer Ad van Dongen. Participants of the course are either musicians or filmmakers and they have been teamed up in couples consisting of one of each kind. Legendary American 80s mixer to headline show US DJ John Morales, a legendary mixer/remixer of the 80s, will perform at a pre-Tet party at the Observatory tomorrow. Morales started playing records in his native Bronx, and then edited and remixed his favourite tracks. He has worked as a mixer/remixer for artists and groups like Jocelyn Brown, Inner Life, Musique and Bumblebee Unlimited. In 1982, he teamed up with Sergio Munzibai and together during the 80's did more than 450 remixes as M&M, including work for Rolling Stones, Dan Hartman and Shalamar. The performance will begin at 10pm at 5 Nguyen Tat Thanh Street in District 4. Entrance is free before midnight, and VND100,000 after midnight.
