Ho Chi Minh City could generate 1.4 billion USD by investing in making its transportation system more resilient in extreme weather conditions, a study released by Siemens and Arup said last week. Calculations based on a review of HCM City's transportation network illustrate that - without intelligent solutions - its traffic congestion is estimated to have a direct cost to the city's economy of about 97 billion USD between 2015 and 2045. Around 45 percent of the City is less than a metre above sea level, rendering the City and in particular, the transport system, highly exposed to flooding, especially during the rainy season. An economic appraisal shows that an Integrated Management System (control centre) would take only eight years to become net positive in terms of costs and benefits. This could lead to a net benefit of 1.4 billion USD over the next 30 years. "Infrastructure has a long lifespan. Investments made today will determine future development tomorrow, especially when the … [Read more...] about Bản in : Weather could hit HCM City traffic hard

New iPhone 7 ditches the audio jack; offers adapter
Apple jack axe ushers in a voice-driven world. The new Apple iPhone has something missing: the small socket millions of us have used for years to plug in headphones. While some fans opposed the widely anticipated move - one online petition urging Apple to keep the headphone jack drew more than 300,000 signatures - equipment suppliers and experts heralded a change in how users will interact with their devices. Axing the jack, they say, paves the way for discreet, bean-sized earbuds that can simultaneously translate, filter out unwanted noise or let us control other devices by voice - and drive up the value of the so-called 'hearables' market to $16 billion within five years. It's the vision of the futuristic 2013 movie "Her", where a human has a love affair with a disembodied voice in his ear. But some who follow the industry say it's closer than many think, noting improvements in wireless technologies, materials, artificial intelligence and battery life. "It's surprisingly … [Read more...] about New iPhone 7 ditches the audio jack; offers adapter
New year could bring record low temperatures to US Midwest, East Coast

Photo by Reuters/Eduardo Munoz Bitterly cold weather will usher in the new year for much of the United States east of the Rocky Mountains this weekend, bringing record low temperatures to the Midwest, making travel difficult and putting a chill on New Year’s Eve celebration The mercury in New York City’s Times Square was expected to drop to about 10 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 12 Celsius) with a wind chill at nearly 0 F (minus 18C) during the final hours of 2017, the National Weather Service said, testing the willpower of hundreds of thousands of New Year’s Eve revelers. In the heartland, next week could bring low temperatures last recorded 130 years ago to parts of Nebraska, said David Eastlack, a meteorologist with the weather service. That includes a record low for the date of minus 22F (minus 30C) for Tuesday. “The bitter … [Read more...] about New year could bring record low temperatures to US Midwest, East Coast
