Surveillance cameras planned for HCM's heavy traffic spots As many as 13 surveillance cameras will likely be installed in seven locations that commonly experience heavy traffic across HCM City, according to a new proposal. The proposal by the Management Center of Sai Gon River Tunnel (MCST) aims to assist HCM City authorities with better traffic management and an improved navigation tool. If approved, the intersections of Hoang Minh Giam–Hong Ha, Nguyen Thai Son, Ha Noi Highway–Vo Van Ngan and Ha Noi Highway–Tay Hoa, as well as Truong Chinh–Au Co, Phan Thuc Duyen–Phan Dinh Giot and Nguyen Thi Thap–Nguyen Huu Tho will be covered by the surveillance cameras. The US$125,000 project will also install the supporting infrastructure, including software, digital video recorders and personal computers. Cam Ranh airport security police established The Security Service yesterday announced a decision by the Minister of Public Security to establish Cam Ranh international airport security police in the south central province of Khanh Hoa. Formerly the airport security police was a part of the Immigration Division under the Khanh Hoa Police Department. At the event, Lt. Gen Vu Thanh Binh who is deputy head of the Security Service required the airport security police to quickly stabilize organization and work with Khanh Hoa police and authorized agencies to keep a close control of entry and exit of Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh City residents opening wallets for foreign martial art lessons
An increasing number of people in Ho Chi Minh City are willing to spend money attending classes that teach martial arts from other countries in order to become stronger and more able to protect themselves when in danger. A center named No.1 Muay Club, in District 1, is offering a month-long course of Muay Thai at VND500,000 (US$22.35), teaching three lessons per week. Learners who need personal instructors can pay an additional VND200,000 ($8.94) to VND300,000 ($13.41) per hour. Many parents take their children to these classes and even hire personal trainers to equip them with the skills necessary for self-defense, despite the high cost. Saigon Sports Club, in District 7, is also providing people with similar services on a larger scale, offering superior quality and therefore at a higher price.
