HCMC opens first drug treatment center with Suboxone A drug treatment center, which prescribes Suboxone to treat drug addiction, today opened in Ho Chi Minh City’s Go Vap District. This is the first of its kinds in Vietnam and marks an important progress of the city in treating drug addiction. Currently, the world is making good progress in treating drug addition. Along with Methadone, additional medications including Buprenorphine, Naltrexone, Naloxone, Suboxone can be used for treating drug addiction. Among them, Suboxone are the most prominent and preeminent as it is safe for patients; accordingly, it is widely used in many countries in the world. Traffic police fine driver of overloaded coach The central Thanh Hoa Province's traffic police yesterday fined a sleeper coach driver, Le Van Phuong, VND40 million (US$1,800) for carrying 111 passengers, 69 more than his coach's registered capacity. The driver was caught when he was driving his 42-seater coach on a stretch of National Highway No 1A in Bim Son Town. The passengers on the coach were mainly students and workers returning to Ha Noi after enjoying a six-day holiday from April 28 to May 3, to celebrate the Hung Kings anniversary (April 28), Liberation Day (April 30) and May Day (May 1). The police also seized the coach for seven days. Israel keeps up Gaza assaults, Kerry presses for truce
Israel kept up its assaults in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, killing three Palestinians in as many air strikes, as U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in the region with a mission to seek a ceasefire in the 14-day-old conflict "as soon as possible." The deaths in Khan Younis, Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahiya raised the Palestinian toll to 539 killed, including nearly 100 children and many other civilians, since the offensive was launched on July 8, Gaza health officials said. Israel's death toll also rose to 29, with two soldiers killed in the past day of fighting, the Israeli military said. The total includes two civilian killed by rocket fire. Lethal injections to replace guns in November
Vietnam will officially carry out lethal injections from November this year to replace firing squads in the implementation of death penalties, according to a new government decree. According to the decree, issued for the implementation of the Law on Execution of Criminal Judgments and signed by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on September 16, local provincial authorities must build lethal injection facilities. The Ministry of Health will be responsible for supplying the chemicals used in lethal injections, including the barbiturate anesthetic Sodium thiopental, muscle relaxant Pancuronium bromide and Potassium chloride the three chemicals most common in lethal injection combination used by many countries. Each dose comprises of 5 grams of sodium thiopental, 100 milligrams of pancuronium bromide and 100 grams of potassium chloride. Two extra doses are required at each execution as spare chemicals.
