The Mekong Delta province has granted codes to 850 establishments with a total of 1,200ha since 2019, according to its Fisheries Sub-department. Most of the farms are in Bac Lieu city, Gia Rai township and the districts of Hoa Binh, Dong Hai and Vinh Loi. To get the code, shrimp farmers need to meet certain standards, maintain a cultivation diary for origin traceability and fulfil other farming requirements . Ta Hoang Nhiem, chairman of the province's Shrimp Association, said in recent years the most demanding import markets have focused on origin traceability, and exporters lacking production codes could not sell to them. Even though recovery across the South-East Asian region has been uneven with the Delta variant, most countries’ GDP including Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam have risen back up to pre-pandemic levels – with the exception of Thailand, which is still at 2 percent below pre-pandemic levels as its tourism industry struggled with travel and mobility restrictions. It was noted that Vietnam was not particularly affected by the Delta variant wave, and hence did not experience large lockdowns that impacted its economy as much as Malaysia and the Philippines did. About 11 million domestic visitors visited HCM City in the first half of 2022, up 43.1 per cent over the same period last year, according to HCM City Department of Tourism. In addition, nearly three million passengers passed through Tan Son Nhat airport in June, with 1.4 million of those passengers staying in HCM City. Normally, the number of passengers arriving and leaving HCM City rise in June from May as the summer holiday season peaks.
