As many as 400 lifebuoys are being placed at some bridges crossing the Red River for rescue work. A lifebuoy is placed at Long Bien Bridge The programme was carried out by the Kham Pha (Discovery) Swimming Club which plans to place 400 lifebuoys at bridges crossing the Red River in 10 northern provinces. Head of the club, Nguyen Ngoc Khanh said that they started the programme on May 6 and was intended to help save drowning people. "There have been many drownings in the Red River," Khanh said. "Some of them fell into the river in accidents, while some others committed suicide by jumping off the bridges. We believe that the lifebuoys could help save people." Khanh said that they have so far installed over 100 lifebuoys in the provinces of Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, and Hanoi. Night tour of Thang Long Citadel revives ancient royal customs
Hanoi last month resumed its night tour of Thang Long Imperial Citadel, a complex of buildings first constructed in 1011 under the reign of King Ly Thai To. It was constructed on the remains of a Chinese fortress dating from the seventh century, on drained land reclaimed from Red River Delta in Hanoi. It was the center of regional political power for almost 13 centuries, from the Ly, Tran to Le dynasties. The tour that lasts an hour and a half starts from Doan Mon, the main gate of the imperial citadel at 18 Hoang Dieu Street, Ba Dinh District. From the gate tourists commence along roads paved with lemon flower bricks built under Tran Dynasty to Thien An Palace. A royal court ceremony and ancient dance performance called "Thang Long Palace" is staged on top of the archaeological remains. Vietnamese pottery village charms with unique technique
Different from those in many other famous pottery villages across Vietnam, potteries made by the Cham people in Bau Truc Village in south-central Ninh Thuan Province feature a special method: walking around the products to shape them. Located in Ninh Phuoc District, about 10 kilometers from the provincial capital of Phan Rang, Bau Truc is one of the oldest pottery villages in Southeast Asia and the ceramic making technique here has been listed as national intangible cultural heritage, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism. Bau Truc pottery items are made from clay from the Quao River mixed with sand. Clay is collected from the river only once a year, each time lasting for half a month. Trần Sỹ Tố, head of Ea Na Leprosy Treatment Department (also known as Ea Na Leprosy Camp) of Đắk Lắk Dermatology Centre in Tuôr A Hamlet of Dray Sáp Commune, Krông Ana District, is much-loved by leprosy patients and their relatives. He is considered one of the family. It is only 20km from Buôn Ma Thuột City, but few people know that Tuor A Hamlet used to be an isolated area for a long time.
