More than 620,000 candidates, applying for natural science courses, took tests in maths and physics in the morning and afternoon respectively. They are set to take the chemistry test this morning. The Ministry of Education and Training said the exams went ahead smoothly without any problems like traffic jams and breakdowns while the test papers were error-free. Most candidates said the mathematics test was reasonably easy. Poor student tops uni entrance test (01-08-2007) BAC NINH — An underprivileged student from the northern province of Bac Ninh has got top marks in the entrance exams for the Ha Noi University of Technology. Despite the trials fate has thrown at him; his family’s low income and the recent illness of his father, Nguyen Dang Chuan outperformed his peers with a mark of 29.75 for mathematics, physics and chemistry. Chuan, the youngest of three children, lives with his family in Thanh Khuong Commune. His parents scraped a living by planting rice and bricklaying until recently when Chuan’s father was struck down with a serious illness and had to give up work. "My family is very poor so my brother and sister had to give up their studies early," Chuan says. VietNamNet Bridge – Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien has drawn public attention by suggesting that medical and pharmaceutical schools should admit students based on their high school finals and university entrance exam results, including tests in literature. Under the proposal, students registering to study at medical schools would have to sit national high school finals in math, literature and foreign languages, and the university entrance exam in biology. Students registering to study at pharmaceutical schools would have to take the national high school finals in math, literature and foreign languages, and the university entrance exam in chemistry.
