Thousands of residents from across Long An province and visitors to the area flocked to the Happyland resort in Ben Luc district to participate in the lantern festival on February 12. During the event, local people prayed for peace, love, and happiness in the New Year ahead. Visitors to the resort arrived at the festival early in the morning to be among the bustling atmosphere and see the diverse cultural art activities on display. Upon entering, each guest received a lantern that features messages of best wishes for their families and relatives. Over 30,000 lanterns were released by visitors into the lake. Can Tho City lights up for floral lantern festival
Two huge dragon-shaped lanterns were the highlight of this year’s festival. Sixty large lotus-shaped lanterns represent the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Ninh Kieu Harbour. Each dragon-shaped lantern is 5 meters high and 15 meters long. Many activities take place during the festival, such as art performances, a boat racing contest and an exhibition featuring books, photos and calligraphy about Ninh Kieu Harbour. This year’s floral lanterns have been made to provide information on Can Tho City’s landscapes, destinations, and tourism products. There were about 50 of the most outstanding lanterns chosen to participate in the 2nd Annual Lantern Festival in Hoi An which lures thousands of visitors daily. The lanterns are built in large sizes and set out to shine over the Hoai River Square. The smallest lantern is 1m x 1m. The works are made by famous masters in Hoi An and other amateur organisations in order to honour this extraordinary tourism product of Hoi An. The themes focus on tigers (the sacred animal of 2010), Cau Pagoda (a symbol for Hoi An's ancient street), wooden horse carousel, fish lanterns, rose lanterns and more. Visitors and local people in Hoi An are in awe with the magnificent lanterns. Once again, Hoi An can celebrate the success of its new tourism product with this annual event that will be held every Tet.
