Authorities of the southern province of Kien Giang are seeking measures to settle the serious pollution of the Duong Dong River. The 21.5-killometre Duong Dong river is the largest river on Phu Quoc Island. The river’s pollution is blamed on waste discharged from nearby households, boats, restaurants and hotels. In addition, hundreds of businesses along the river are involved in fish sauce production. Lots of them have no sewage treatment system. The family of Nguyen Van Dinh in Long Chau commune, Yen Phong district is among households accessing capital from the fund and successfully improve their economic production . Already having land and labourers, but Dinh’s family did not have capital for production. In 2019, after receiving a loan of 100 million VND (4,273 USD) from the fund, the family invested in raising ducks and goats as well as fish. According to Tran Quang Bao , vice president of the Vietnam Administration of Forestry, 6,000ha of land has been cultivated for panax ginseng cultivation and development in Quang Nam and Kon Tum provinces. Vietnam aims to increase total land usage for cultivating ginseng to 200,000ha in the provinces of Quang Nam, Lam Dong, Nghe An, Lai Chau, Kon Tum, Lao Cai and Gia Lai by 2030 and target specific regions to manufacture ingredients which will be used for producing ginseng products in the same area.
