Lac Viet launches two new dictionary versions By Huu Thang - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC - Lac Viet Computing Corp. has released into the market two new dictionary versions, the mtdEVA2008 for mobile phones and the mtdEVA9 for computers. The mtdEVA2008 is suitable for Symbian and Windows Mobile with over 350,000 entries as well as examples based on situations and contexts. Special words and phrases are included via automatic and online update functions, said Ha Than, chief executive officer of the company. Than said that the company would complete the Vietnamese to English automatic translation for mtdEVA9 and publish French-Vietnamese, Vietnamese-French, Chinese-Vietnamese, and Vietnamese-Chinese in the third quarter this year. Recording assoc. seeks to fight copyright violation Thu Hien Lac Viet, Microsoft sue software violator By Hien Nguyen - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC – The Recording Industry Association of Vietnam (RIAV) on Wednesday sent documents to relevant authorities asking for help after reportedly failing to make agreements with two online music websites NTC and 24H on music copyrights. In its letter of denunciation, the recording association accused the websites http:// nhaccuatui.com of NTC Joint Stock Company and http://nhacvui.vn of 24H Online Adverting Joint Stock Company of violating the copyrights that belong to the association. Microsoft and Lac Viet win software privacy case in VN Ha Van By Ha Van - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC – Microsoft Vietnam and local software producer Lac Viet have been compensated VND1 billion after two months suing Taiwanese firm Long John based in the southern province of Dong Nai for illegal use of their software products. Following the court decision, Long John Dong Nai pledged that it will fulfill all requests from Microsoft and Lac Viet, including publicly apologizing to the two and paying a compensation of more than VND1 billion as the value of all the software products it have pirated. Long John is a footwear maker wholly-owned by Taiwan, working as a contractor for major brands like Adidas, Converse and Nike. VietNamNet Bridge – Foreign-invested enterprises (FIEs) found using pirated software in Vietnam are facing a risk of being sued and from being prohibited from exporting to large foreign markets. Recent inspection tours conducted by government agencies have discovered copyright infringement at many different levels committed by FIEs. Only a few software used at FIEs were found to be copyrighted, while most of the important software was pirated. The inspectors, for example, discovered many pirated software products worth billions of dong at Perfect Vietnam, a 100 percent Taiwanese medical technology company in Vinh Loc Industrial Zone in HCM City. Of the 44 computers examined at the company, the inspectors found 124 software products of different kinds, including Autodesk for graphic design such as AutoCAD and Adobe Photoshop, and Microsoft’s Office software.
