Assets of former chief inspector to be scrutinised The Central Inspection Commission of the Communist Party of Vietnam has announced a decision to look into the assets of Tran Van Truyen, former Chief Government Inspector. The commission will send a task force, including some Ben Tre provincial officials, to inspect inspect and assess his assets. Since mid-February year, information published in the Vietnamese press publicly raised questions over Truyen’s luxurious home, which covers 16,000 square metres in Ben Tre Province. Some newspapers have mentioned other villas in the province said to be owned by Truyen in the province, as well as other large homes that belong to him and his relatives in District 2 and District 7 of HCM City. Ambassador confident of stronger Peru-Vietnam ties Strengthening economic-trade ties with Vietnam is one of Peru’s top priorities, Charge d’affaires Luis Tsuboyama has said. Tsuboyama told Vietnam News Agency in a recent interview that bilateral relations have developed considerably in all realms, from economics, investment and trade to science and technology since both countries established diplomatic ties in 1994. They have signed a number of agreements on economic and trade cooperation. The two governments recently decided to boost cooperation in the areas of their strength, including agriculture, industry, aquaculture and mining. The diplomat noted the military-run telecom group (Viettel) of Vietnam and the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) have developed investment projects in Peru. Hanoi hosts the 20th ASCOJA conference
The event is part of activities marking 40 years since Vietnam and Japan first established diplomatic ties and four successful decades of ASEAN-Japanese relations. The conference’s overarching theme of “ASCOJA towards the Cooperation and Development of ASEAN and Japan” invites delegates to discuss issues relating to diplomacy, the environment, education, science and technology, and consolidating regional cohesion. Attendees will also review the Council’s 2012–2013 activities and lay out a roadmap for its 2013–2015 operations. This is the first time the Japan Alumni of Vietnam (JAV) have hosted an ASCOJA conference at home. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) on July 25 presented a certificate of merit of its Minister to the Honorary Chairman of the Japan Alumni of Vietnam (JAV), Nguyen Ngoc Binh, in recognition of his contributions to boosting Vietnam-Japan relations. As Vice Chairman of the JAV, Binh had made great efforts in promoting connections among former Vietnamese students in Japan. Since he assumed the role of JAV Chairman in 2004, he has led the association to make positive contribution to fostering exchange and mutual understanding as well as the friendship and relations between the two countries. Japan Educational Seminar 2015 opens in Hanoi & HCMC
Japan Alumni of Vietnam (JAV), Japanese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) in Ho Chi Minh City co- organized the 2015 Japan Educational Seminar in Hanoi and HCMC from October 31 to November 1.Illustrative image. According to Prof. Ngo Minh Thuy, Vice Principal of Foreign Languages University and Chairman of Japan Alumni of Vietnam, the number of Vietnamese students in Japan has increased more and more. In 2014, around 14, 726 Vietnamese students registered to study in Japan. Men arrested for stealing gene research devices
Men arrested for stealing gene research devices Two men have been arrested by the Dong Da District Police for stealing electronic devices from the Centre for Gene-Protein Research at Ha Noi Medical University. Tran Van Vinh, 26, and Le Dinh Thang, 18, were working as technicians at the university when they reportedly stole equipment and copyrighted software containing information on genetic research. The stolen contents were reported to be of high value. Thang later confessed to authorities that at 4am on August 21, he broke into the centre via a window on the second floor and stole a Dell laptop belonging to the facility. Thang later called Vinh in September to help him break into the centre again; where the men stole a Vaio laptop, a Nokia E71 mobile phone and an electronic heater.
