Official sources said a pilot programme is underway to collect data from six chosen cities across the country, namely Ha Noi, HCM City, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Khanh Hoa and Can Tho. Total registered FDI in Vietnam’s real estate sector in the first half of 2019 stood at $1.32 billion, a fall of 76 per cent compared to the same period of 2018, which stood at $5.54 billion, according to the latest report from real estate consultants JLL. This is largely due to the substantial amount of capital for real estate in the first half of 2018, primarily in two projects: Smart City in Hanoi, with total investment of $4.1 billion from the Sumitomo Corporation, and additional capital of $1.1 billion in the Laguna project in central Thua Thien Hue province from a Singaporean investor. Raising capital by issuing bonds is a new option for property enterprises at a moment when they have to look beyond banks for funds, said financial expert Bùi Quang Tín at a workshop held by online news portal Bizlive in HCM City early this week. The latest M&A deal was made by Keppel Land from Singapore, which entered into a conditional share purchase agreement with domestic developer Phu Long Real Estate Corporation to acquire 60 per cent interest in three land parcels, spanning 6.2 hectares in Nha Be district of Ho Chi Minh City for a total of VND1.304 billion ($56.7 million). According to Keppel Land, partners plan to develop a total of 2,400 premium apartments with ancillary shophouses which will offer more than 14,600 square metres of commercial space to the market. Linson Lim, president of Keppel Land in Vietnam, said that this acquisition will add a remarkable number of houses to Keppel Land’s pipeline of about 20,000 homes and quality commercial portfolio in Vietnam.
