HCM City (VNA) - HCM City’s Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee has expressed its appreciation of the southern city’s Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s active engagement in local COVID-19 response over the last year, Standing Vice Chairman of the committee Nguyen Thanh Trung told a conference on January 26. The conference was held by the Executive Board of the VFF committee to review Buddhist affairs last year and map out orientations for 2021. Trung said the VBS proved itself an important VFF member and became a symbol of national unity. Recognising its achievements in Buddhist affairs in 2020, he also praised the VBS for proactively supporting the city in combating COVID-19 and joining humanitarian, charitable, and social welfare programmes. HCM City honours power-saving households
HCM City (VNA) - The Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVN HCMC) held an awards ceremony for the 2020 emulation programme “Power-saving families” on January 26. Launched by the municipal Steering Committee for Power Supply, Saving, and Safety and EVN HCMC, the ceremony aims to encourage households to join hands to use electricity effectively and economically and raise public awareness about the effort. The organising board said nearly 900,000 households saved 443.67 million kWh of electricity last year, helping reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 400,000 tonnes and saving more than 920 billion VND (40 million USD). At the ceremony, 480 outstanding power-saving households for 2020 were honoured. The board set a goal of encouraging local residents to install solar panels as well as increase LED lighting systems to 20 percent in 2020 and 100 percent by 2025. Transport ministry agrees electric bus operation in Hanoi, HCM City
Under the ministry’s instruction, the people’s committees of Hanoi and HCM City need to ask Vingroup to set out pilot runs, including technical safety and environmental standards. Earlier, Vingroup proposed a plan to open 10 electric bus routes with a total of 150-200 buses in Hanoi and five routes of the same kind in HCM City. In May, VinGroup set up the VinBus subsidiary specialising in transport services. Ha Long authorities vow to punish cheating tour operators
Ha Long People's Committee said they had read a complaint from Facebooker Linh Mai about poor service at OYO Hai Anh VIP Hotel. Mai said the hotel cancelled her booking without notification and there were signs that Hai Anh 10 cruise had increased prices illegally. On May 19, Mai's family booked two rooms from May 29 to 31. However, on May 29, Mai called the hotel and suddenly was told that her booking has been cancelled and no one wanted to take responsibility. On the following day, the family visited Ha Long Bay on the Hai An 10 cruise but complained that the prices were too high and the tour time had been cut short by an hour. They only had 30 minutes to visit Dau Go Cave. Vu Hong Son, vice chairman of Ha Long People's Committee, said after receiving the news, they had asked the Department of Culture and Information to work with the city police and related agency to investigate the accusations and report back by June 6.
