Hanoi reported the highest number of infections on the day with 495 cases, followed by Nghe An with 123 and Phu Tho with 120. The northern province of Bac Giang added 443 cases to the national log after verifying information. The country has to date logged 10,693,141 COVID-19 cases, including 43,063 deaths. A total 9,065 COVID-19 patients were given the all clear on May 13, bringing the number of recoveries so far to 9,344,029. There are 333 patients needing breathing support. Hanoi chairman, health minister face disciplinary actions over Covid test kit scam
According to a Wednesday announcement, the Party's Central Inspection Committee proposed to the Politburo, the Party's decision-making body, to consider disciplinary actions for the Party Committee of the Ministry of Science and Technology during the 2016-2021 period, the Party Committee of the Ministry of Health during the 2016-2021 period, Hanoi chairman Chu Ngoc Anh who served as the science minister during the period, and health minister Nguyen Thanh Long. Kickbacks in medical equipment procurement exposed in Vietnam
Giving and taking kickbacks in procuring coronavirus test kits during the COVID-19 pandemic has been uncovered across Vietnam, with dozens of health officials arrested for involvement in price gouging for illegitimate profit by a supplier discovered five months ago. So far, more than 30 health officials, including three seniors from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Science and Technology, and eight directors of provincial centers for disease control (CDC), have been arrested for receiving 'commissions' as kickbacks from Viet A Technology Corporation (Viet A Corp.), which had illegally raised prices of test kits to earn huge profits. The latest arrest took place on May 11, when Ha Giang Province CDC director Nguyen Tran Tuan and his two subordinates were apprehended on charges of taking bribes. Vietnam, Laos boost construction of road linking two capital cities

At present, it takes 3-4 hours to travel from HCMC to Can Tho City. (Photo: SGGP) The project starts at An Binh Station in Di An City in Binh Duong Province and ends at Cai Rang Station in Cai Rang District in Can Tho City. The whole route connects six localities, including HCMC, Binh Duong, Long An, Tien Giang, Vinh Long, and Can Tho City, with 13 stations. The HCMC - Can Tho railway route is a double-track railway, using a standard gauge of 1,435 millimeters, with a design speed of about 190km/h for passenger trains and 120km/h for freight trains. With the above speed, the travel time from HCMC to Can Tho will be shortened to only 75-80 minutes, instead of 3-4 hours by road, as currently.
