COVID-19: Vietnam records 1,179 new cases, 3,862 recoveries on May 23

(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – A total 1,179 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the past 24 hours from 4pm May 22 to 4pm May 23, according to the Ministry of Health . Hanoi reported the highest number of infections on the day with 332 cases, followed by Vinh Phuc with 75 and Quang Tri with 72. The national tally reached 10,710,066. A total 3,862 COVID-19 patients were given the all clear on May 23, bringing the number of recoveries so far to 9,405,908. There are 216 patients needing breathing support, while one death was recorded in the past 24 hours, taking the total fatalities to 43,076. Vietnam tourism development ranked among three biggest global improvers
Vietnam gained an overall score of 4.1 out of seven points, rising by 4.7 percent to leap from 60th in 2019 to 52nd out of 117 economies in the 2021 index released on Wednesday by the World Economic Forum (WEF). The index measures the factors and policies that will enable sustainable and resilient development of tourism from business, safety and health conditions, to infrastructure and natural resources, environmental, socioeconomic and demand pressures. The WEF report further ascribed Vietnam’s improved ranking to its achievements in Covid pandemic prevention, flexible adaptation as well as continuous efforts to develop safe tourism. Vietnam performed well in price competitiveness, safety and security, air transport and port infrastructure as well as natural resources. However, the country still needs to improve factors like tourist service infrastructure, prioritization for travel and tourism, and environmental sustainability, the report said. Gov’t asks for extension to bad debt programme

(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - The Government has asked for an extension to a pilot programme designed to handle bad debt from domestic financial institutions during a meeting of the National Assembly on May 24. The programme, issued under Government Decree 42 in 2017, was set to be extended until the end of 2023. The programme, since its implementation five years ago, has contributed to the restructuring of numerous financial institutions and the collection of bad debt during the 2016-2020 period, according to Nguyen Thi Hong, Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV). By the end of 2021, the programme had helped handle over 380 trillion VND in bad debt, or 47.9 percent of the country's entire bad debt since August 15, 2017. Another molnupiravir drug authorised for use in COVID-19 treatment

Ltd., has been authorised by the Drug Administration of Vietnam (DAV) for the domestic treatment of COVID-19. This is the fourth Molnupiravir-based drug produced in Vietnam to be authorised for use in the country. The DAV orders manufacturers to adhere to documents registered with the Ministry of Health; coordinate with treatment facilities to strictly comply with current regulations on prescription drugs, monitor the safety, effectiveness, and unwanted effects of drugs on Vietnamese people, as well as compile reports according to regulations.
