Equitisation of SOEs still sees slow progress
A Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) cargo ship (Photo: thuonggiaonline.vn) Hanoi (VNA) - Only nine state-owned enterprises (SOEs) were given the green light from the government for their equitisation plans this year, reported the Ministry of Finance (MoF). The progress was still “very slow”, said Dang Quyet Tien, Director of the MoF's Corporate Finance Department, at the ministry’s press conference on the local financial and production situation and the restructuring and equitisation of SOEs in Hanoi on December 10. Tien said though equitisation and divestment had a positive impact on the development of the stock market, improving the performance of firms, the slow progress was “concerning”. Among nine SOEs reported, three were on the list of 128 SOEs required to be equitised by the Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in the period from 2016 to 2020. He said since 2016, Vietnam had 168 SOEs approved for equitisation, of which 36 were in the … [Read more...] about Equitisation of SOEs still sees slow progress

Among the athletes on their way home were the men's U22 football team and the women’s football team, who won two golds for Việt Nam. Việt Nam finished the competition in second place in the medal tally with 98 gold, 85 silver, and 105 bronze medals. Following a successful campaign, the nation finished with six more gold medals than Thailand in third. As the event’s host nation, the Philippines topped the list with a haul of 149 gold medals. — VNS Coach Park Hang-seo. by Paul Kennedy GREAT SCOT: Duncan Ferguson celebrates after winning his first match as Everton’s interim manager. AFP/VNA Photo I had the pleasure of meeting Everton’s caretaker manager, Duncan Ferguson, on two separate occasions back in the 90s. I say a pleasure, but the first time our paths crossed wasn’t very pleasurable. I had just covered an Everton Premier League match and found myself stood next to (or rather towered over by) the imposing Scot in the reception area of Goodison Park, home of Everton FC. It was fairly common knowledge at the time that Big Dunc wasn’t very forthcoming when it came to giving interviews with the press, but, being the daring (and stupid) reporter I was at the time, I thought I would try my luck. “Mr Ferguson, great win today. Quick word about the game?” “%*&?!# *&%%$” was his reply, and I’m not writing that in Scottish. I wasn’t particularly offended, it … [Read more...] about Take a chance on Big Dunc

AFP/VNA Photo SEA Games THE PHILIPPINES The 30th Southeast Asia (SEA) Games ended on Wednesday with a rocking closing ceremony in the 20,000-seater purpose-built stadium in Clark. After a chaotic start beset by organisational gaffes, a presidential apology and online mockery, the Games were briefly hit by a deadly typhoon, but organisers worked round the clock to get the schedule back on track.
