Birdies on a plane: Vietnam’s Bamboo Airways banks on golf resorts for success

May 16, 2019 by

Competition among airlines in Vietnam has intensified since Bamboo launched in January. Malaysia’s AirAsia Group recently canceled its foray into the Vietnamese market, and increased traffic has placed strain on Vietnam’s aging infrastructure. But Bamboo chief executive Trinh Van Quyet is confident he can fend off budget carrier VietJet and state-owned Vietnam Airlines by using the airline to connect his golf resorts to cities in Vietnam and northeast Asia. "Even international airlines don’t have an ecosystem like Bamboo’s," said Quyet, chairman of Bamboo’s parent company, FLC, which owns five golf resorts across the country. The young airline’s slogan is "more than just a flight." "We have the rooms and combo packages for passengers. They can visit Vietnam, stay and play golf for free," Quyet told Reuters in a recent interview from an FLC resort in Ha Long Bay. Quyet is hoping that helps draw tourist crowds from South Korea, Japan and Taiwan, some … [Read more...] about Birdies on a plane: Vietnam’s Bamboo Airways banks on golf resorts for success

Actions advised for Vietnam to lure investors amid energy crunch

December 14, 2019 by

Legal or regulatory obstacles with a low level of certainty and issues concerning grid access for private projects, are the most pressing to private investment. Experts have recommended the Vietnamese government to remove regulatory obstacles for domestic and foreign investors in the energy sector to avoid energy insecurity caused by inadequate infrastructure due to low private investment.  Legal obstacles should be resolved to attract private investors in energy projects. In a working paper released recently, the experts said that given the new position of public finance, though official development assistance and preferential loans were previously the major sources of energy investment, they have been reduced significantly. “The country will see a threat to energy security if sufficient capital for infrastructure and new energy, such as renewable energy (RE), cannot be raised,” remarked the experts. Injecting capital into the energy sector will enhance … [Read more...] about Actions advised for Vietnam to lure investors amid energy crunch
