PANO - The Southern Women Museum is exhibiting 152 images and 84 objects highlighting weaving and dying methods and patterns of the traditional costumes of Cham, Khmer and other ethnic minority groups in the Truong Son-Central Highland region. The exhibition, opened on October 14th in Ho Chi Minh City, aims to honor women of those groups, who have been trying to preserve their traditional trade. It is also to introduce to visitors the groups’ cultures, and preservation of traditional trade, contributing to local socio-economic and tourism development. According to Nguyen Thi Tham, the museum’s manager, typical patterns on traditional costume of the ethnic minority groups feature the living environment, culture and rituals of each group. Hanoi Gift Show 2015
PANO – The Hanoi Gift Show 2015 will be held at the Vietnam Exhibition and Fair Center (148 Giang Vo Street, Hanoi), as announced at a press conference on July 21. According to the organizing panel, around 600 booths from more than 200 businesses and production units in 30 provinces and cities nationwide, such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh city, Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang city, and Nghe An, are joining the event. Artist goes bananas with rustic artworks
Artist Phan Văn Đắc has created over 700 artworks from dried banana barks. Photo suckhoedoisong.vn Dried banana bark might sound useless to many, but by using his creativity and skill, artist Phan Văn Đắc in Quảng Bình Province creates vivid landscapes and soulful portraits. Living in a small alley in coastal Đồng Hới City in the central province, the 80-year-old artist is often seen trimming and glueing rough-dried banana barks together to create pictures with the themes of nature, history or war. Đắc has had a passion for art since a young age. However, he chose to study at the Vinh Technical Workers School with the hope of having a stable job while growing up. In 1965, he enlisted in the army and joined the 599th Division, stationed west of Trường Sơn Mountain Range.
