The United States, Australia, Japan, New Zealand and the United Kingdom launched an informal group aimed at boosting economic and diplomatic ties with Pacific island nations, the White House said on Friday. The Biden administration has vowed to commit more resources to the Indo-Pacific as China seeks to boost economic, military and police links with Pacific island nations hungry for foreign investment. The group, dubbed Partners in the Blue Pacific (PBP), will seek to support Pacific regionalism and strengthen economic ties between the Pacific islands and the rest of the world. Naval ship offers free medical check-ups, medicine in south-central Vietnam
The hospital ship Khanh Hoa 01 of the Vietnam People’s Navy began providing medical examinations and drugs for local residents of Phu Yen Province within the framework of the U.S.-led Pacific Partnership 2022 (PP22) on Tuesday. The medical provision, expected to benefit more than 180 local residents, is set to run at Vung Ro Port through Thursday. The hospital ship Khanh Hoa 01 is among the most modern of its type in Southeast Asia. It also performs search and rescue missions at sea. ASEAN, Canada seek ways to foster partnership
Addressing the event, Assistant Foreign Minister and Head of SOM Canada Paul Thoppil affirmed that his country always attaches great importance to 45-year-ties with ASEAN, and underlined that ASEAN and the Southeast Asian region play a core role in the Indo-Pacific Strategy that Canada is going to announce. He said Canada hoped to engage deeper into regional cooperation through ASEAN-led mechanisms. In order to celebrate the 45-year partnership between the two sides (1977-2022), Thoppil proposed organizing an ASEAN-Canada Commemorative Summit in late 2022 in Cambodia and lift up their ties to a strategic partnership. India naval ships visit Vietnam
During Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Hanoi from June 8 to 10, Vietnam and India released a joint vision statement on defense cooperation towards 2030. Two Indian naval ships, INS SAHYADRI and INS KADMATT under the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, Rear Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, NM are making a port call at Ho Chi Minh City Port, Vietnam for three days starting on June 26.
