Vietnam is keen to enhance the collaboration with India in various areas, said Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang during his visit to India in early March. The statement was made on March 3 at the India-Vietnam Business Forum in New Delhi, a meeting attended by enterprises of the two countries in a number of fields such as information technology, communications, real estate, and garment. Quang said Vietnam expects to boost and heighten the effectiveness of investment cooperation with India in activities in which the latter’s strengths lie, and Vietnam considers as necessary, like information technology, bio-technology, renewable energy and mechanical engineering. The Hanoitimes - Cooperation between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Transport has contributed to the development of Vietnamese tourism, the former’s Minister Hoang Tuan Anh said on July 22. At a working session in Hanoi, Director General of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Van Tuan elaborated that the two ministries have closely coordinated in issuing and implementing a number of policies and legal normative documents to improve tourist transport services and attract investment in traffic infrastructure. They also worked together to propose keeping in place unilateral visa exemptions for citizens of Japan, the Republic of Korea, Russia, Denmark, Switzerland, Norway and Finland and granting exemptions for people hailing from Germany, Italy, the UK, France and Spain on a trial basis. The visit is also a chance for Vietnam and India to adopt measures to promote their comprehensive relationship as well as facilitating business deals. The traditional friendship between Vietnam and India originates from their common historical links in culture, religion and trade. It was established and fostered by President Ho Chi Minh and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and by other generations of leaders and people of the two countries. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the remark at the Vietnam-India Trade and Investment Forum on October 27 as part of his trip to India. In his speech at the event that attracted 300 business representatives from the two countries, PM Dung announced Indian multinational conglomerate company Tata Group and the Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) are finalizing necessary procedures to put the US$1.8 billion Long Phu 2 thermal power plant construction project into operation soon. HCM City firm wins tourism contract
HCM CITY — The local firm Coteccons has won a contract to work as the main contractor for the Ho Tram Tourism Complex project in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau. The contract was signed by the investor of the Ho Tram Tourism Project, Canadian Asian Coast Development Corporation, and Coteccons last week. Coteccons is responsible for the main civil engineering items and will manage the project, with the first phase of the project valued at VND3.2 trillion (US$155 million). The first phase will be completed in 2013. With a total investment of $4.2 billion, the 160-ha Ho Tram strip is ranked as Viet Nam's first large-scale integrated resort, and among the largest in Southeast Asia. Construction of the Ho Tram complex includes a five-star hotel, a casino and a golf course. India-Vietnam direct route to be launched Vietnam Airlines on September 15 announced a codeshare pact with Jet Airways of India for jointly sharing passengers to provide them seamless connections on direct flights from Vietnam to India, easily facilitating one-stop ticketing and baggage check-in.
