Hanoi (VNA) - Almost 106,000 poor households in ten provinces and cities nationwide improved sanitation and built new latrines with aid from a project by East Meets West organisation over the last three years. The Community Hygiene Output-Based Aids (CHOBA) project was run from June 2012 in rural areas including Ninh Binh, Hai Duong, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Tra Vinh and Soc Trang. It was designed in line with the goals of the National target Programme for Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Phase III to support disadvantaged areas to achieve the plan. CHOBA project director Nguyen Thi Tuyet Mai said at a preliminary summing-up conference on December 11 that the project mobilised nearly 300 billion VND (13.3 million USD) to offer loans for households to build latrines. JICA helps MoF enhance project management capacity
Thirty officials of the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance (MoF) are now implementing a three day training course in Quang Ninh’s Halong city to strengthen the project management capacity, focusing on Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E). The course includes half a day visit to practice monitoring and evaluation on a JICA-funded project namely “Environment Protection in Halong Bay”. The course is an in-depth workshop to provide standard and basic knowledge on steps, methodology and skills for practical project M&E, in the form of both standard curriculum and customized case studies and group works. Trainees also have chance to understand basic concepts of project evaluation from the view point of financer, taking example of JICA. Seminar looks at ODA projects’ management (19-05-2006) HCM CITY — Better management of projects funded by official development assistance (ODA) would significantly contribute to Viet Nam’s socio-economic development, a senior Government official told an international seminar opened in HCM City yesterday. The two-day seminar, held by the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the World Bank in Viet Nam, is attended by 130 delegates from Vietnamese ministries involved with ODA-funded projects, representatives of China, Malaysia, Poland and UK, five foreign banks, and donor-nations. Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Cao Viet Sinh, who also co-chaired the ODA Project Management seminar, said in 2001-2005 ODA funds accounted for the nation’s 11 per cent of gross capital formation and 17 per cent of State investment. He was asked to take up another posting at the municipal Department of Transport. Vu Duy Tung, director of Hai Phong City's Department of Transport, was assigned to hold the post of director of Project Management Unit of Regional Transport Works and take responsibility for all activities of the unit, especially on the progress of Hai Phong Urban Transport Development Project.
