Chilean miner ‘very emotional’ after Thai cave rescue

A Chilean miner who spent more than two months trapped underground told AFP he was celebrating the rescue of 12 Thai boys and their football coach who were imprisoned in a flooded cave for 18 days. Chilean miner Mario Sepulveda screams for joy back in 2010 as he is rescued after two months trapped in a mine AFP/Rodrigo ARANGUA "Yippeeeee!!! I'm very, very, very emotional," Mario Sepulveda said on Tuesday (Jul 10) upon learning of the successful conclusion to the Thai rescue mission. In 2010, he was one of 33 miners trapped in a copper mine in the Atacama desert for 69 days, a dramatic saga that captivated the globe. "What more can I say ... Congratulations to Thailand on successful rescue of trapped football team

A Reuters witness near the Tham Luang cave in the northern province of Chiang Rai saw medical personnel carrying four people out of the cave to waiting ambulances over the course of the day. The rescue operation was launched on Sunday and four boys were brought out that day. Italy ferry fire: Scores awaiting rescue

Almost three hundred people are awaiting rescue from an Italian ferry that caught fire north-west of Corfu. Around 200 people have already been airlifted to safety - 478 in total were on board. One person died after jumping from the ship and another has been confirmed injured, officials say. The blaze on board the Norman Atlantic, which was travelling from Patras in Greece to Ancona in Italy, reportedly started on the ferry's car deck before spreading. Passengers described panicking as the heat rose, then freezing as they stood on decks awaiting rescue. The wife of one of the cooks told journalists she had had a call from her husband saying: "I cannot breathe, we are all going to burn like rats - God save us."
