VietNamNet Bridge – Official statistics show that Vietnam has two dollar billionaires and hundreds of super-rich, but the actual figure is believed to be higher if it includes the hidden billionaires. Who are the super-rich? The number of super-rich Vietnamese people has been increasing rapidly despite the economic recession. The latest "Billionaire Census 2014" by Wealth-X and UBS showed that Vietnam was among 14 Asian countries with dollar billionaires. In 2014, the number of dollar billionaires increased to two with total assets of $3 billion. The report did not show the names of the two billionaires. IFC to invest in Vietnamese SMEs Philippe L. Ahoua, the International Finance Corporation’s (IFC) Asia Pacific Region Treasury Client Solutions Spokesperson, has detailed the corporation’s intentions to invest in Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the near future. Speaking on the sidelines of a seminar on Vietnamese capital market development, Mr. Ahoua noted the country remains without a credit rating agency for corporate bonds. As a developing market, Ahoua identified IFC’s task in Vietnam as to help domestic companies access capital through the corporate bond market. He emphasised the corporate bond market’s potential capital is open to all private enterprises. Ahoua promised IFC has proper risk assessment procedures tailored to SMEs. A Swiss bank, in its report released in September 2013, affirmed that 200 Vietnamese had been listed as super rich people, i.e. those who have the assets worth $30 million at least. The 2014 Wealth Report just released by Knight Frank, showing that Vietnam is the country which has the sharpest increase in the number of super rich people - 166 percent (293 super rich).
