Shares finish week higher on the back of steel, securities sectors

On the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange, the VN-Index rose 0.82 per cent to close at 1,262.33 points. The VN-Index had lost 0.54 per cent in the last two days. More than 541.7 million shares worth VND13 trillion (US$555.7 million) were traded on the southern exchange. The market's breadth was positive with 273 stocks climbing, of which eight hit ceiling prices, while 166 declined. The VN30-Index, which tracks the 30 biggest stocks on HoSE, jumped 0.68 per cent, to 1,280.96 points. Elephants enjoy a "buffet" of fruit and vegetables marked its World Elephant Day. World Elephant Day, observed on August 12, was created with the main objective of preserving and protecting this animal and seeking solutions to the problem of human-elephant conflict. A project on elephant preservation in Dak Lak, Dong Nai and Nghe An was approved by the Government in 2006. Recently, in Decision No. 413/QD-TTg dated March 31, 2022, the Prime Minister agreed with the project’s adjustment. Under the decision, the elephant conservation plan will be implemented until the end of 2025. Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Administration of Forestry (VNFOREST), Tran Quang Bao said that the country has successfully implemented tasks to manage human-elephant conflicts between elephants and people which often happened in 2009-2012. Three dead, eight missing in northern Vietnam flooding
The northern highlands province of Hoa Binh reported three deaths: Dinh Thi Nguyet, 35, Ha Tam Uyen, 4, and Nguyen Minh Hieu, 10, were swept away by floodwaters and their bodies found later. Of the eight people listed missing, also swept away by floods, two were from Hoa Binh, one from Phu Tho, two in Lao Cai and four in Nam Dinh Province. The four Nam Dinh victims are a 35-year-old woman, her 8-year-old daughter and her two nieces, aged 11 and 12. They went to a river at around 6:30 p.m. Thursday. When the three children entered the river to swim, they were swept away. The woman tried to jump in to save them, only to be swept away as well. Storm Mulan weakened into a tropical depression on Thursday morning. It then made landfall onto Quang Ninh and Hai Phong. Heavy downpour turns Hanoi streets into ‘rivers’
Many streets in Hanoi were turned into 'rivers' as a heavy downpour battered the Vietnamese capital city on Friday morning. The torrential rain started at around 5:20 am on Friday, according to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting. Thuy Khe Street in Hanoi is turned into a 'river,' August 12, 2022.
