The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has set a goal to build at least 10 hectares of public parks across the metropolis in 2022, the Vietnam News Agency reported. The city will add at least 10 hectares of public parks and two hectares of green space, as well as plant and renovate 6,000 trees, this year, according to a plan recently issued by the municipal People’s Committee. Authorities in every district and Thu Duc City were tasked with making a list of land plots originally zoned for building public parks. If these land lots are currently leased for other purposes, the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment will suggest a road map to reclaim them to prepare for the park construction. The market’s breadth was skewed in favour of bulls with advancers outnumbering decliners by 806 to 133. On the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), the benchmark VN-Index surged by 56.42 points, or 4.81 per cent, to reach 1,228.37 points. The market’s liquidity was lower than the previous session with 543 million of stocks traded on the southern bourse, equivalent to around VND13.3 trillion (US$575 million). According to analysts, many holders revoked their selling orders amid strong buying forces, leading to tight supply and soaring prices. Saigon was greeted with a heavy downpour at the beginning of this week. Getting to work, already a tedious task, was now chaotically worse. Motorbikes pulled themselves to the side en-masse and riders brought their raincoats out. Cars weren't much better off, either. They had to switch lanes frequently, making traffic even more complicated. Buses had no maneuvering room. As the water poured down my face, I wondered, not for the first time: was I better off on the bike or were the bus passengers the happier lot? The answer seemed obvious. They could just sit there and enjoy the rain tapping on the glass, insulated from the outside chaos. Of course, riding a bus in Vietnam is not always the most pleasant experience.
