The device is the brainchild of Nguyễn Thanh Trung, a second-year student at HCM City University of Information Technology. His reading machine was awarded the bronze medal at the International Exhibition for Young Inventors in India from October 16-22, an annual event for youths to exhibit their creativity in invention and innovation. The machine also won first prize at the 13th nationwide Children’s Innovation Competition in 2017 when he studied at Nguyễn Tất Thành High School in Kon Tum Province. The Curiosity team with five members from Danang Polytechnic University won the first award at EduHackathon 2017 for a finger reader for the blind. Curiosity's finger text reader for the blind won EduHackathon 2017 The ASU/AWS EduHackathon 2017 was co-organised by Arizona State University, BUILD-IT Alliance, and Amazon Web Services (AWS). The Hackathon focused on solving real-world problems that are present in Vietnam and many countries around the world. These include but are not limited to traffic control and reduction, e-government services, healthcare, and leveraging open data. The competition is open to students from any of the BUILD-IT academic partner institutions with a team of 3-5 people from the same institution. This year, EduHackathon attracted 17 teams of 68 students from different universities in Vietnam.
