The municipal People’s Committee said as an economic locomotive of Vietnam, the city will have to make continuous development. Therefore, the master plan will be revised so as to make HCMC more attractive to businesses while winning public approval. According to the Department of Planning and Architecture, the amendment will take into account the local resources while ensuring that urban structure will be arranged in a way that helps HCMC address technical infrastructure problems, adapt to climate change and eradicate flooding. The planning work aims to build for the city a competitive environment, a complete infrastructure system, an urban space able to mitigate climate change impacts, and a suitable urban structure that can minimise the population pressure on the downtown area. Ministry creates master plan to protect Dong Nai river basin By Van Nam - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is obtaining suggestions from scientists to create a master plan to protect the environment of Dong Nai river basin until 2020. The Dong Nai river, which covers a total area of some 37,400 square kilometers, flows through the provinces of Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Lam Dong, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Long An, Tay Ninh and HCMC. At the master plan seminar last week, Bui Cach Tuyen, deputy minister of natural resources and environment, said that the pollution in the river basin has reached an alarming level. Five more cement projects removed from master plan Van Nam By Van Nam - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has agreed on eliminating five more cement projects from the zoning plan for the 2011-2020 due to lower local consumption. The projects removed from the master plan have a total annual capacity of 910,000 tons. Earlier, the Prime Minister also approved the Ministry of Construction’s proposal for removing nine clinker projects with a daily capacity of less than 2,500 tons. The Government last year decided to postpone the implementation schedule of nine other cement projects, comprising Thanh Son, Tan Phu Xuan, Tan Tao, Yen Mao, Sai Gon Tan Ky, Phu Son, My Duc, Nam Dong and Minh Tam. Coal sector gets nod to add projects into master plan The Saigon Times Daily HCMC – A Ministry of Industry and Trade proposal to add some urgent projects to a master plan of Vietnam’s coal industry until 2020 with a vision to 2030 has been approved by the Prime Minister, a move seen to boost coal production in the country. Under the scheme, projects to tap coal resources in Uong Bi-Dong Trieu-Pha Lai in the northern province of Quang Ninh have been separated into independent exploration projects to facilitate their development. As such, Trang Bach mine in the area is now separated into Southern Trang Bach and Northern Trang Bach projects. Govt approves adjustments to ICD master plan HCMC – Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has approved a revised master plan for Vietnam’s inland container depot (ICD) system until 2020 with a vision to 2030, with southern facilities to bear the brunt of cargo clearance, the Vietnam News Agency reports. The plan is to facilitate the domestic ICD system to meet the increasing demand of import-export transport, raise the capacity of goods clearance among seaports, reduce transport costs, and ease traffic congestion, especially in major cities. Under the plan, the domestic ICD system should be able to handle at least 15-20% of the volume of containerized goods, with a total capacity of 4.03-6.84 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) per year by 2020. The respective figures will be at least 25-30% and 12-17.6 million TEUs per year by 2030.
