Thailand’s Kasikornbank opens first branch in HCM City
The bank has served Vietnamese customers via its two representative offices in Hanoi and HCM City since 2015. Speaking at the opening ceremony held on August 5, Thai Ambassador to Vietnam Nikorndej Balankura said that Thailand is currently the 9th largest foreign investor in Vietnam and also the largest trading partner of the country in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region. The opening of a branch by KBank in HCM City is an important milestone reflecting the bank’s strategic vision in strengthening economic ties between Thailand and Vietnam, he said. Lasting through August 13, the annual expo is featuring 400 booths run by around 350 businesses from 18 nations and territories. On display are the sector's products, machinery, equipment, and packaging-processing technologies. M&A value reaches USD 5.43 billion in seven months
The figure included the 885 million USD equity purchase of Korean KEB HANA Bank for 15 percent stake of the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) announced on July 22. Since 2018, Vietnam has emerged as a big M&A market in the Southeast Asian region with many big value deals. Total M&A value last year reached 7.64 billion USD, down 25 percent compared to 2017’s record value of USD 10.2 billion. However, if excluding the USD 5 billion deal of ThaiBev’s purchase of Sabeco’s equity in 2017, the 2018’s M&A value still increased by 41.4 percent year-on-year. Exhibition, trade event held for southern provinces’ businesses
An exhibition and trade networking event was held in HCM City’s Le Van Tam Park for businesses from southern provinces to promote their goods to consumers and distributors. — VNS Photo Viet Dung An exhibition and trade networking event for southern provinces to promote their agriculture products with high export potential has opened at HCM City’s Le Van Tam Park. In 2019, Vietnam had 668,503 enterprises, of which 647,632 were private, representing 96.88% of total companies. Private enterprises contributed 15.127 trillion VND (64.7 billion USD) or 57% of total net revenue, and hired 9.075 million employees, accounting for 59.9% of the total employees in the country’s enterprise sector.
