An Indian tourist who landed in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday was overcharged by a cab driver who pretended to be an employee of a popular local taxi company. Upon arriving at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the foreign visitor took a cab from the airdrome to a hotel on Nguyen Hue Street in District 1, about eight kilometers apart. The driver dropped him off about 100 meters away from his destination in an impolite manner before charging him VND1.2 million (US$51.6), according to the tourist’s account. It normally costs around VND150,000 ($6.45) to travel such a distance by taxi. The Indian tourist said he caught the cab via a taxi dispatcher, adding that the driver presented him with a receipt with a logo of Mai Linh Corporation, a popular taxi firm in Ho Chi Minh City. (Photo: laodong.vn) HCM City (VNS/VNA) - Transport units at coach stations and airports as well as train stations in Ho Chi Minh City are busy meeting passenger demand for travel before and after the Tet (Lunar New year) holiday. The Sai Gon Railway Station in District 3 has 17-22 trains departing each day between 6am and 11:05pm, carrying 15,000-17,000 passengers from HCM City. Do Quang Van, director of the station, said the station has added four times the staff and worked with local police forces and public security forces to provide the best services during the holiday. Because traffic jams often occur on streets leading to the train station on peak days of the upcoming holiday, passengers should arrive at the station at least 30 minutes prior to their departure to avoid late arrival. In the first months of 2018, two obstetricians in Yen Bai province were physically abused by a husband and 10 others after the medical workers, who were delivering his baby, asked him not to climb on the window railing to film the birth. This was among many reasons for patients and their family members to attack medical workers, 70% of whom were doctors and 15% nurses, according to the Ministry of Health. The reasons ranged from a doctor’s refusal to conduct a fluid infusion to a drunken patient, or a doctor preventing a fight between patients.  In another case, the family assumed the doctor’s diagnosis was wrong and hit him before forcing an apology out of the doctor.
