Hoan Kiem Lake covers around 12 hectares in the heart of Hoan Kiem District and within the protection zone of the special national relic site Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son Temple. Not only does it serve as a rainwater reservoir and control climate condition for the area, but the lake is also a landmark of the capital city, being associated with the spiritual and cultural life of Hanoians, and a key tourist attraction. However, its water environment is heavily polluted with high-density algae and a high pH, plus biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) at nearly two times higher than allowed. It has a sediment layer from 0.4-1.06m thick, containing heavy metals and toxic gases, affecting the habitat of creatures in the lake. The Hanoitimes - An exhibition introducing Hanoi construction plans to 2030 and the vision to 2050 opened on April 21 in Hanoi, attracting thousands of people. Each visitor can note their comments on the draft plan. The exhibition centers on a a mock-up of future Hanoi after 2030, introduced to the Hanoi People’s Council on April 20. Many maps on land use, traffic structure and satellite cities are displayed. A short video clip about the plan is also screened on the wall. The mock-up of Hanoi after 2030 with a total area of 3344.47sq.km. Hanoi had 6.23 million people in 2008. The city is estimated to have around 10 million people by 2030. Vietnam earns a place in the global tourism map
(VOVworld) - Vietnam has become a spotlight in the global tourism map thanks to the country’s extensive and intensive integration in the ASEAN. Director General of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) Nguyen Van Tuan cited Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh province, Hoi An ancient town in Quang Nam province, Nha Trang city in Khanh Hoa province, Sa Pa in Lao Cai, Da Nang, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City as well-known destinations in Vietnam. Biggest coffee Vietnam map to be on display
Nestle’ is to display the biggest Vietnam map, made from instant black coffee, at the Coffee Festival 2008 held in Dak Lak from December 10th to 14th. The festival, organised by Dak Lak People’s Committee, attract the participation of 150 domestic and international businesses. The idea of the made from coffee map honours Vietnam, the second biggest coffee export country. The map will be made from coffee grown in Dak Lak and the costumers to the festival will make the map by themselves during four days of the festival. Mr. Pierre Schaufelberger, General Director of Nestle’ Vietnam said that Vietnam was a big coffee export country but the coffee consumption inside the country was low. Exhibition features past and future trams in Hanoi
(Cinet)- An exhibition titled “Hanoi’s trams – Past and Future” officially opened at the Exhibition Hall, 45 Trang Tien Street, Hanoi, on September 30. The exhibition features 3D images to introduce Bo Ho tram station and the typical electric trams which were used as the main means of public transport, connecting the countryside to the capital city from 1900 to 1991. Relief maps and video clips also present the modern public transport system that is currently under construction in Hanoi. The exhibition was designed by young architects from the Hanoi Digitalisation Group. 6D interactive technology gives visitors the experience of sitting in a real tram station. The tramcar system was first put into operation in Hanoi in 1900 with the launch of the Bo Ho – Thuy Khue route.
