The evening’s highlights included presentation of the very first People’s Choice Award for Project of the Year Southeast Asia. This went to Bangkok condominium BEATNIQ by Thai developer SC Asset. Cu Mong Tunnel The 2.6-kilometer long tunnel opened to traffic on January 21 following four years of construction, allowing vehicles to cross the Cu Mong Mountain Pass, one of the most rugged in the country, between Binh Dinh and Phu Yen provinces in south-central Vietnam. Currently the western tunnel is being used for traffic, while the other is meant for use as a refuge chamber during emergencies. MobiFone-AVG deal goes to court
At the court (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The Hanoi People’s Court on December 16 opened the first instance trial of the case of telecom giant MobiFone’s purchase of 95 percent of Audio Visual Global JSC (AVG). Among the 14 defendants to be tried, 13 have been charged with “violating regulations on public investment management, causing serious consequences” under Clause 3, Article 220 of the 2015 Criminal Code. They include former ministers of information and communication Nguyen Bac Son and Truong Minh Tuan, and former head of the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC)’s Enterprise Management Department Phan Dinh Trong. Vietnam promotes the role of FDI companies in country’s exports
Tran Thanh Hai, deputy director of the Agency of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said policies to encourage export-oriented foreign investments have created favorable conditions for Vietnam to access and expand its markets in the world and enhance its competitive edge, thereby helping the country participate in and improve its position in the global value chain. In 2001, exports of the FDI sector accounted for 45.2 percent of Vietnam’s total export turnover, including crude oil. The proportion has increased gradually over the years, reaching 57.2 percent in 2007 and 71.4 percent in 2018. The domestic sector has also made great contributions to export growth. In recent years, domestic businesses have recorded a rise in their exports at a rate higher than the export growth rate of FDI companies.
