And they will employ workers from the Thanh Nha Disabled Centre, Ha Noi, to help do the job by making EcoBags from used banners, canvas and backdrops. The students are members of the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) sponsored 3R-HN Club – Re-use, Reduce and Recycle – and are intent on changing people’s attitude to environmental protection through the use of eco-bags. Ha Noi students win big in ‘UK Now’ competition (11-04-2006) The final round of an English competition entitled UK Now opened at Melia Hotel last Saturday, wrapping up with unpredictable results as both of the top prizes were given to two students of the Ha Noi-Amsterdam High School. The competition, organised by British Council in Viet Nam and Hoa Hoc Tro (Student Flower) newspaper, lured the attention of high school students nationwide since its launch on February 20 of this year. Soon after the crosswords and multiple choice questions about the UK were printed in Hoa Hoc Tro newspaper for the first time, the competition’s organising committee received replies from different regions. HA NOI — A 17-year-old, who has just graduated from the Ha Noi-Amsterdam Elite High School, has won Viet Nam Television's national quiz show and with it a US$35,000 scholarship to study abroad. Phan Minh Duc beat three others in the final of the year-long Route to Olympia Peak gameshow which VTV3 broadcast live on Sunday. The other contenders were Nguyen Huu Phuoc of Binh Phuoc Province's Quang Trung High School and Do Duc Hieu and Giang Thanh Tung of Thanh Hoa Province's Le Loi and Sam Son high schools. The four had won their respective quarterly-level shows after starting in a weekly show. Luong The Vinh High School began selling registration forms for the sixth and tenth grades on Monday, and all 1,600 forms were sold out at the school's locations in Cau Giay and Thanh Xuan in the morning, according to the school's Board of Management chairman, Associate Professor Van Nhu Cuong. One million trees project takes root in Ha Noi
HA NOI -- (VNS) Approximately 150 trees were planted in Ha Noi-Amsterdam High School this morning, as the programme to plant one million trees in schools nationwide began to branch out. At the ceremony, the school's deputy headmaster Le Thi Oanh said the programme aims to create green space for schools and improve students' awareness of the importance of planting trees and protecting the environment. More 110 trees are also expected to be planted in Luong The Vinh High School today. The programme, jointly run by the Vietnam Environment Administration, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and Vinamilk Corporation, will continue in schools in northern Hai Phong City, central Da Nang City, plus many other cities in the country. The Kids Witness News contest accepted five-minute films entered by Vietnamese students aged between 10 and 15. The themes for the movies this year were communication and ecology. The second prize went to the Wellspring International School for The Bodyguard and the third prize was awarded to Marie Curie Secondary School for their entry Light Pollution.
