The Music Contribution Prize, held during the night at the HCM City Opera Theatre, will include awards in a range of categories, including best singer and album of 2008, as well as prizes for the year’s outstanding musical shows and programmes. The winners will be selected by about 100 journalists who report on music and culture. Pham Duy’s additional 21 songs allowed for circulation in Vietnam
VietNamNet Bridge – The Performing Arts Agency has released a decision on licensing 21 more songs of famous songwriter Pham Duy in Vietnam. The 21 songs include: My Mother, Beautiful Mother, Mother’s Expectation, Mother Paddy, Falling Tears, What Will Bring to the World of the Dead, Sad Street, Singing in the Lo River, Long Trip, Warm Spring, Sea Song, I Sing, Love Lullaby, Impermanent Nostalgia, Love through SMS. In particular, there are two songs composed in 1947, Border Bridge and Soldier’s Winter. In addition, there are four songs were set to music by Pham Duy, words by Nguyen Tat Nhien: I Pray God, The Small Northern Girl, You Are Gentle Like a Masoeur, Rather Be Raindrops Falling on Stone Statues. Composer Pham Duy is 93 years old. He has just been through an illness and his health is weakened very quickly. His greatest desire now is that more songs are licensed for circulation in Vietnam. In 1991, after his erstwhile wife had migrated to France together with their children, he remained alone in Saigon, and then met her. By a strange twist of fate, not long after their first date she had to resettle in America with her extended family. The almost 15,000-km distance failed to separate them, though. Venezuela’s Cultural Secretary and a passionate love for Vietnam
He was charmed upon his first arrival in Vietnam. The landscape, the nature and especially the people are exactly as his father described when he was 15. He loves the country, the people, the culture and everything pertaining to Vietnam. He is Nelson Rodriguez, First Cultural Secretary of the Venezuelan embassy in Hanoi. First time visitors to Mr. Rodriguez’s apartment can hardly believe it’s the residence of a foreigner. All decorative items come from Vietnamese daily life: funny water puppets, brocade pictures and Buddha statues. Mr. Rodriguez says Vietnam shares a close bond with Venezuela: “We consider Vietnamese people our brothers and sisters.
