Singapore meets medal targets at SEA Games 31

Singaporean swimmer Joseph Schooling at SEA Games 31 (Photo: VNA) Singapore (VNA) – Singaporean athletes have achieved their targets set for the ongoing 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) in Vietnam, said Chief of the Singapore Sports Institute Dr. Su Chun Wei at a press conference on May 22. The Singaporean sports delegation gave their best at SEA Games 31, and showed determination and resilience, perseverance and ambition to take to win, he said. Sports administrators of Singapore hailed the “bright future” ahead for Singapore sport after the showing by its athletes at the SEA Games, with over a third of the 161 medals garnered claimed by debutants. The Singaporean contingent of 424 athletes competed in 33 sports at SEA Games 31 and clinched 47 gold, 44 silver and 70 bronze medals as of May 22. SEA Games 31 concludes: Vietnam helps raise regional sports level

Vietnam impresses regional sports delegations and visitors who felt nothing but warmth, friendship, and hospitality. Vietnam has helped raise the level of the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) by including Olympic and Asian Games (ASIAD) sports in the competition program. Ramon Fernandez, Head of the Philippines sports delegation, gave the idea when sharing some impressions on the organization, and the qualification of international referees in SEA Games 31 that was held in Hanoi and 11 nearby localities. He said the host country has been very open and tried to create a fair game, contributing to raising the level of SEA Games. The 15 other countries where Saudi citizens are barred from traveling are India, Indonesia, Iran, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Libya, Armenia, Belarus, and Venezuela, reported Gulf News . The Saudi government's Directorate General of Passports issued the travel ban on Saturday after it observed a consistent increase in the number of daily Covid-19 cases in the previous weeks. On Saturday, the Saudi Ministry of Health announced 414 new infections of Covid, with the weekly figures seeing a five-fold increase compared to those seen through March and April. More than 9,100 people have died due to Covid in Saudi Arabia. Vietnam has been seeing major drops in Covid infections and hospitalizations.
