The figure includes 246 million USD in August. Between January and July, China remained the biggest importer as it accounted for 70.5 percent of Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports, equivalent to 1.65 billion USD – down 5.6 percent year on year. It was followed by the US, whose imports rose 12.5 percent to 84.07 million USD, making up 3.6 percent of the total. According to the provincial Department of Agricultural and Rural Development, the province has more than 28,000ha under fruits and grows over 300,000 tonnes of various fruits annually. They not only meet domestic demand but are also exported to many countries, with some fruits like rambutan and xiem coconut even sold to demanding markets like the US, Australia, Canada and Europe. As many as 12 products of 22 batches which are suspected of being infected with Salmonella were been imported to Việt Nam in 2017 and 2018, according to the VFA. Earlier on Monday, the VFA received information from the International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN) on food safety incidents involving some children infected with Salmonella in France. An investigation was conducted in France and detected a link between the infections and the use of some baby formula products.
