(Photo: VNA) Dong Nai (VNA) – Long Thanh district in the southern province of Dong Nai has handed over more than 93 percent of land required for the first phase of the Long Thanh international airport project to its investor, the district People’s Committee said at a meeting on July 5. According to the committee, 2,375 hectares out of 2,500 hectares needed for the first phase, have been cleared in service of the construction. Do Thi Thu Hoai, an employee in Phu Tho province, said: “I have been working at this company here for five years, but the allowances have remained the same for me. “I see that several other companies provide an amount for accommodation support, but here we don’t receive any.” Each month, she receives her base salary of VND4.4 million (US$188), alongside the allowances of VND300,000 for diligent attendance, VBD150,000 for fuel charges, and VND30,000 for female employees. There was an allowance for employees with children of VND100,000 (US$4.30) per month, but this no longer exists, she said. Rental assistance package for workers disbursed at snail’s pace
The government in late March issued a decision to grant a financial support package of VND6.6 trillion ($287.4 million) to help migrant workers pay rent for up to three months. The package is to be given to 3.4 million people by mid-August. As approved by the government, each worker will receive VND500,000-1 million per month over no more than three months.
