An Italian fashion designer opens up about his life in Vietnam for the past two decades and his beautiful marriage with a Vietnamese woman. “It has been 20 years since I first came to Vietnam. My beard has turned gray by the course of time,” said Riccardo Bianco Levrin, an Italian fashion designer and author of the book titled ‘Nini and Lotta in Hanoi.’ Levrin’s book partially paints the image of how he and his two children spend their days in Hanoi, where they now live. Viet Nam’s fashion designers shine in 2006 (02-01-2007) Vietnamese designers last year were more professional than ever, achieving recognition here and abroad for the quality and creativity of their designs. One up-and-coming talent, Vo Viet Chung, rose to fame after restoring My A and Tan Chau satin cloth, two traditional Vietnamese materials made in the craft village Tan Chau in Dong Thap Province’s Hong Ngu District. Chung used the quality satins, which have been popular for hundreds of years, to create elegant and eye-catching articles for his collections. After spending years in Italy and Denmark to improve his skills in design, Chung says he is sure that he can take the lead in setting new trends in the local market. Leading fashion designer, Minh Hanh, has become the second Vietnamese winner of the Fukuoka Prize known as arts and culture award. Minh Hanh's designs are performed at the ceremony. The information was released on July 7 at the awards announcement ceremony in Hanoi. Minh Hanh produces contemporary fashion designs based on her deep insight of the many ethnic cultures in Vietnam. Her work fuses ao dai (a traditional long tunic), time-honored embroideries and fabrics inherited from Vietnamese ethnic minorities. Her fashion shows and cultural activities have helped promote Vietnamese culture closer to the world. One up-and-coming name, N&M, rose to fame after opening its flagship store on the city’s Dong Khoi Street, a beautiful, historic street that attracts top fashion names, including Louis Vuitton and Versace. The shop offers ready-to-wear designs for male and females of 20 to 40 years of age, and uses quality satin, linen, khaki and jersey. N&M products offer a combination of traditional Vietnamese and modern American styles.
