Clean energy brings stable electricity supply to Truong Sa Archipelago
The lives of soldiers and islanders in Truong Sa island district in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa have changed a lot thanks to solar panels and wind turbines. Solar panels are installed in Truong Sa island district. (Photo: VNA) Solar and wind power is used widely in islands belonging to Vietnam's Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago, said Colonel Le Dinh Hai, Deputy Head of Brigade 146 under Naval Region 4. Hai, who is also Chairman of the Truong Sa District People's Committee, said that the clean energy sources now could meet the daily needs of local residents for cooking, and powering TVs, radios and even electric fans at night. "Truong Sa is the first district in Vietnam lit up with clean energy," Hai said, adding that thanks to the stable energy source, activities on the island became much more convenient than before. Hanoians happy to spend big bucks on pet day care
When Vu Ngoc Minh Ha and her husband leave home in Tay Ho District at 7 a.m. for work, they take their samoyed dog named Xe Dap (Bicycle) with them and drop him off at a doggy day care on nearby Dang Thai Mai Street. They pick him up on their way home in the evening. For the past three years Ha, 27, has been entrusting Xe Dap to the center from Monday to Friday every week. "We don't want to leave our dog at home alone because we are afraid he will be lonely without anyone to play with or destroy furniture," she says. While the monthly fee is high enough at VND4 million, the couple pay extra for him to be fed extra meals and given spa treatments and other services. They typically spend VND10-12 million (US$427-512.89) on the animal each month. ‘Ech’ an unFROGgettable experience in Ho Chi Minh City
Editor’s note: Jordy Comes Alive, from the U.S., has lived in Ho Chi Minh City for three years and become a big fan of local food after spending time wandering around local alleys and markets to discover the culinary scene. His piece has been titled, subtitled, and edited by Tuoi Tre News . I’ve noticed people can get a little jumpy when you talk about eating frogs. Not me though, I always leap at the opportunity. When it comes to eating frog, I’m mainly familiar with it being batter-fried like chicken. Truth be told and I know this sounds strange to some but I honestly prefer fried frog over fried chicken on any given day. Enjoying fried frog is the same kind of eating sensation as with fried chicken, only the meat has a cleaner taste (sans the flavor of fowl), and the white frog flesh is juicy with a buttery finish. 'Water chicken,' as funny as the term is, croaks partially true. I started thinking maybe it’s time I paddle my way to other ponds to broaden my … [Read more...] about ‘Ech’ an unFROGgettable experience in Ho Chi Minh City

European Union working to increase economic, security ties in Pacific
The European Union is working to boost its presence in the Pacific through economic ties and new security commitments as geostrategic competition in the region intensifies, the bloc's ambassador to Pacific Island nations said on Tuesday. Ambassador Sujiro Seam told Reuters in an interview during a visit to New Zealand the EU had long been seen as a development partner in the Pacific and that it wanted to be perceived as an economic and strategic partner as well. The EU's push comes as major powers are vying for influence in the region, with the United States and Australia ramping up engagement in the Pacific after China signed a security pact with the Solomon Islands this year. "The geostrategic importance of the Pacific is recognised by everyone, including the European Union," Seam said. The European Union has long had a presence in the Pacific, mostly via France's ties to French Polynesia. In 2021, the European Union set out a formal Indo-Pacific strategy and announced a … [Read more...] about European Union working to increase economic, security ties in Pacific
