(Photo: VNA) Quang Ninh – Athlete Pham Tien San won the first gold medal in Duathlon for Vietnam at the 31st SEA Games on May 15 on Tuan Chau beach in the northern province of Quang Ninh. San finished first in the competition with a time of 1:55:58. Ferbriade Rudi and Johan Jauhari, both of Indonesia, secured the silver and bronze medals a time of 1:56:12 and 1:57: 36, respectively. 31-year-old San had won three silver medals at SEA Games held in 2013, 2015 and 2017. Thirteen male athletes from seven regional countries took part in the event. The Duathlon event at SEA Games 31 has two sets of medals for men's and women's individual events. SEA Games 31: Thailand defeat Laos 5-0, advancing to semi-finals of women’s football

Thailand’s Rodthong opened the score in the 17th minute. The net of the Lao side was also rocked in the 43rd, 57th, 60th and 85th minutes. After three matches, Thailand fetched 7 points to top Group B while Laos was still empty-handed. Vietnam continues seeing falling daily Covid-19 infections, no death
The number of new Covid-19 infections continued to drop with 1,594 cases recorded on Sunday, down 301 cases from the previous day, according to the Ministry of Health. According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 53 out of 63 localities in the country with some localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (461), Quang Ninh (88), Nghe An (80), and Yen Bai 80. As of Sunday evening, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to over 10.70 million. The country now stands 12th among 227 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections. On May 15, an additional 5,448 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to over 9.35 million. Tourist falls off boat, drowns in Ha Long Bay
The tourist boat Long Giang 68 was on a tour of the bay with 15 tourists on Saturday afternoon when Nguyen Ngoc Phat, 43, a visitor from the southern Can Tho City, stood on the prow. As it was about to approach the Ha Long International Cruise Port, he fell into the water. Others on board threw lifebuoys into the water but to no avail. At around 9 p.m. that day rescuers found his body. The police are investigating and the boat’s license has temporarily been revoked.
