(VOVworld) – President Tran Dai Quang practiced a ploughing ritual in Doi Son commune, Ha Nam province on Friday, hoping for a bumper rice harvest, favorable weather, and national prosperity. Addressing the festival, the President Quang said the ploughing festival, which beautifies Vietnam’s communal cultural practices, has been recognized as national intangible cultural heritage. He stressed the need to preserve traditional essence and encourage the people to develop agriculture in line with the Resolution of the 7th plenary meeting of the 10th Party Committee on agriculture, farmers, and rural areas. Tich Dien ploughing festival to bring a good farming year
The seventh annual ploughing festival to bring a year of favourable weather and a bumper crop season took place on February 25 at Doi Son commune, Duy Tien district in the Red River Delta province of Ha Nam. The three-day festival consists of a ceremony and festival activities. The ceremony includes the procession of a huge drum and King Le Dai Hanh’s ancestral tablet from Long Doi Son Pagoda to the foot of the Doi Mountain to merge with the processions of the village’s guardian god and the father of Doi Tam drum-making. The joint procession proceeds to the land King Le Dai Hanh ploughed and is followed by a ceremony paying respect to the God of Agriculture to pray for a high-yield season, strong development and prosperity. This year’s Tich Dien-Doi Son festival took place from Jan. 27-29 or from the fifth to the seventh day of the lunar new year, hoping for a bumper rice harvest in 2012 – the Year of the Dragon. 1,000-year-old ploughing festival restored
The Tich Dien Doi Son Festival (King’s Ploughing Festival), which was initiated more than 1,000 years ago to promote agriculture, has been restored in northern Ha Nam province. Thousands people have flocked to Doi Son commune, Duy Tien district, on Feb. 1 to witness buffaloes ploughing the first furrows for the new year, wishing for bumper harvests, and a prosperous life. Addressing the launching ceremony, Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan applauded the province’s idea to restore the festival to retell historical stories and encourage farmers in production. The festival was launched with a drum performance by a team of drummers from Doi Tam village which is well-known for making drums. The event helps younger generations deepen their understandings of national customs and show their love for the labour that fuels national development. The Tich Dien-Doi Son Festival is a traditional annual farming celebration—restored by the Ha Nam provincial People’s Committee—to pray for good weather and a bumper harvest.
